Draco-common

Draco-common is the root language for all the tongues of the scale-folk and their draconic parentage. Draco-common was developed in the time leading up to the Schism and served a great role in unifying the draconic races during this event.

Draco-common words are often long and drawn out, augmented often by a hissing noise with the tip of the tongue or an alveolar trill from the hard palette. Non-native speakers of the language often do not master the subtleties of the length and inflection of syllables and tend to be mocked or looked down upon by native speakers.

In the Third Age, draco-common is still spoken by dragons and any races descended from dragons, though most races now also speak their own dialect that is not often taught to outsiders. Draco-common serves as both a common tongue between the myriad sub-races of scale-folk and as a trade language between scale-folk and those quick-witted enough to pick up the language.
